Blue Medina Stories

Arrive, private transfer to your hotel and time to rest. A light welcome dinner and an introduction to the history of northern Morocco.

Drive north to Tangier and settle into a riad beside the medina. A first walk through the Grand Socco, the narrow lanes and the kasbah, and sunset over the Strait of Gibraltar.

A full day in the medina and kasbah, including the Tangier American Legation Museum — given to the United States by the Sultan of Morocco in 1821 and the only American National Historic Landmark outside the United States.

On to Tetouan and a first walk into the medina with a local guide: white-and-green houses, old gates, small squares, funduks, craft quarters and the mellah. Dinner drawn from northern Moroccan cooking.

A morning following the Andalusian thread, with a workshop in embroidery, textiles, leather or wood. In the afternoon, drive to Chefchaouen and walk the blue medina once the day-trippers have gone.

An early photography walk, then the kasbah, Place Outa el Hammam, neighborhood bakeries, weaving workshops and the quiet residential lanes. A free afternoon: a terrace above the town, or a short walk to the viewpoint.

Down to the Atlantic and the small white medina of Asilah, known for its murals, artists and sea ramparts. Lunch by the ocean, then on to Rabat and a night in a riad.

The Kasbah of the Udayas, a short walk through the Rabat medina and calm time for shopping. Drive to Casablanca for a farewell dinner and the story of the journey retold.
